Grass Valley has an extensive knowledge of video processing which came in very helpful when moving from CCD’s to CMOS imagers. It was possible to design the imager with optimal imaging properties and do the corrections and signal processing in the FPGA. It enables a short time to market and offers a flexibility that is needed in nowadays markets where the focus is more and more on “I Need it now”.
The presentation will discuss in some detail the following elements:
Technology: Why did it take so long to move from CCD to CMOS imagers in the broadcast space
Parameters that matter: Dynamic range, Speed and Noise in CCDs and CMOS,
The advantage of FPGA’s: Dedicated signal processing IC’s, or ASIC’s, versus FPGA’s
Using vision properties in a high dynamic range video algorithm to reduce the amount of cell’s used in an FPGA.
