With devices, machinery and manufacturing plants getting smarter, they also become more vulnerable. This makes security aspects an increasing challenge for designers of networked devices, machinery and production facilities.
As a building block of IT and data security, systems communicating over the internet directly or via IoT gateways need to have a unique and non-cloneable identity. Systems must also be able to send, receive and store cryptographically strongly secured data. Solutions involving only the use of software rarely offer sufficient protection.
Swissbit offers a flexible, hardware-based approach that includes data protection, secure boot and device integrity in pluggable formats such as (micro)SD cards and USB sticks.
Pluggable security modules allow retrofitting a security anchor to existing designs and systems in the field. Also, they are easy to replace – which is important since the field-life of industrial equipment is typically much longer than the innovation cycle of Security Smart Cards, which need to keep up with growing computing power and capabilities of attackers.
