The component market is becoming weak. Suppliers who are out of stock, extremely long delivery times and very high component prices are not out of the ordinary. This results in contracts not being fulfilled and production lines standing still. The very sparse component availability leads to layout changes and Engineering Change Orders (ECO) all the time which not only affect the production itself but also the existing test program. Modification of existing testprograms and fixtures stops production for the time of creation and needs debugging and/or more investments. The solution: ECO on the FLY. This method combines fixture and Flying Probe test which will save the existing fixtures and major parts of the existing test program for a very flexible testing strategy. It is not only helpful for the obsolete market situation, it can also help to reduce fixture cost by combining fixture and flying probe and has an increased test coverage overall.
