Especially in the medical field, the various apparatuses must not be influenced by potential sources of interference, neither in the domestic environment nor in medical environments such as hospitals. In extreme cases, malfunctions could endanger human life, which is why medical devices are tested according to the international standard DIN EN/IEC 60601-1-2. This standard has recently been updated to reliably exclude malfunctions.
For testing at the three common frequencies of 30 kHz, 134.2 kHz and 13.56 MHz, reference is made to the IEC 61000-4-39 standard for testing of fields in close proximity. The IEC 61000-4-39 standard specifies the solenoid coils used to generate the electromagnetic fields. However, the generation of these fields by the coils is not simple. The coil impedance changes over the frequency range, and the amplifier used then does not match this impedance. The result would be a much higher power requirement. Since the issue in this case is not a frequency range, but individual frequency points, a matching network can be created to match the coil to the impedance of the amplifier.
In order to realize a matched test environment, Schloeder put together a test setup that reliably realizes the tests according to the current standards and the required test fields. With the IEC 60601-1-2 test setup from Schlder these test fields can be generated.
This test setup includes the CDG 7000-MGA generator as well as the magnet and sensor loops required for the respective frequency range and the corresponding matching network.
