The identification of compound’s metabolites is essential through the drug discovery and development, and also during the product development of agrochemicals to ensure human and/or animal safety. Mass spectrometry plays a key role in metabolite profiling and structural elucidation of metabolites. High-resolution mass spectrometry affords improved sensitivity, accuracy and stability required to detect low concentrations of metabolites in complex samples containing lots of endogenous material. The use of liquid chromatography high-resolution mass spectrometry, along with accurate-mass data processing techniques will be discussed to provide a strategy for the detection and identification of metabolites from radiolabeled or non-radiolabeled studies.
