Methods to improve precision data, increase efficiency and improve user-friendliness
The analytical method for the determination of mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOH) has been continuously improved in recent years. In December 2020, a method was presented in Germany with which it is possible to detect the contaminants, MOSH and MOAH with an improved precision and comparability up to a Limit of quantification (LOQ) of 1 mg/kg in oils and fats. This method was published by the German Society for Fat Science e.V. (DGF) as Method DGF C-VI 22 (20).
In particular, the automated options for sample extract purification in food, such as automated epoxidation for the removal of interfering olefins, online elimination of interfering biogenic alkanes using an aluminum oxide column are used for this purpose. In matrices such as cosmetic raw materials and products, a depletion of high MOSH contents must be performed to achieve low LOQ’s for the determination of MOAH.
The evaluation of MOSH/MOAH analyses for quantitative calculation of the results makes special demands for the user and the integration software. In the development of the application-specific evaluation software ‘Chrolibri’, a concious effort has been made to combine essential points in a single software product.
