LEDs feature a long life-time compared to conventional light sources, provided that the LEDs are cooled sufficiently. Metal Core PCBs are often used as a substrate to efficiently remove the heat from the LED. However, due to a significant difference in the coefficient of thermal expansion between the LED and Metal Core PCB, the interconnect might be a limiting factor in the overall life-time of the light engine. In this presentation we will review this into more detail and look at potential ways to improve the longevity of the interconnect.
