TECHNOLOGY THURSDAY: Edge Connectors
TECHNOLOGY THURSDAY
Edge connectors are electrical contacts on the edge of a PCB that are plugged directly into a socket mounted on another PCB. In this way, two PCBs can be easily connected to each other. This connector is commonly used in PCs to connect expansion cards or daughter cards and memory to the motherboard.
For the edge connector, plug contacts are led out at the edge of the PCB and gold-plated. Bevelled edges simplify the insertion of the PCB. In order for this plug-in contact to function reliably and to be made by the PCB manufacturer, PCB designers must observe a few things.
