Virtual keys zijn vaste bedieningsknoppen direct naast of onder een PCAP touchscreen. Er wordt in dat geval gebruik gemaakt van één, extra grote sensor voor het touchscreen, die ook een rand buiten het touchscreen zelf bestrijkt. In dit ‘extra’ sensorgebied worden de virtual keys geplaatst en geprogrammeerd, zodat ze middels dezelfde controller worden bediend.
