Physics of Failure (PoF) is usually associated with materials and lifetime modelling first, and in an ultimate form with an integral virtual reliability engineering process. Since designing reliable and predictable products is essentially about knowing, understanding and controlling failure behaviour, companies can benefit enormously from a PoF approach, even when they do not have or use modelling techniques. This presentation discusses how to think and act from failure mechanisms during design, testing and failure analysis. In addition, this presentation will discuss how the PLOT Reliability workgroup is working on this subject.
