All industrial power converter systems require an auxiliary power supply unit to provide a low voltage bus for powering a wide range of system components such as controllers, gate drivers, sensors and the cooling fans. A flyback converter is typically used to provide this isolated low voltage bus from the high voltage AC or DC input (e.g. 3~ 480VAC). Using standard silicon devices these circuits either have low efficiency or they require complex designs. In this presentation it will be discussed how these issues can be overcome using a high performance 1700V SiC MOSFET in combination with a purpose built quasi-resonant control IC to realize a simple and performant solution.
