The minimization of medium frequency transformers has been focused throughout all the years. The main impact was reached by increasing the switching frequency. While 100kVA/8kHz was popular in the last years, newer applications use i.e. 250kVA/24kHz. Even higher kVA and kHz are coming up with GaN or SIC switches. To deal with this evolution, mf-transformer manufacturers have to rethink state of the art transformer design. Core losses and copper AC-losses and cooling are much harder to be considered. This presentation shows a new advanced compact, cascaded design for medium frequency transformers.
