In this presentation, we propose a new modulation method for multilevel DC-AC inverters. The modulator reconstructs the necessary output voltages, which are provided by an outer model predictive control (MPC) loop, from a limited number of inverter switch positions.
This new modulation method, called model predictive space vector modulation (MPSVM) is based on the state-of-the-art space vector modulation (SVM) and reconstructs the desired output voltages by selecting inverter switch positions such that switching losses are minimized. These losses are computed based on predicted output voltages and load currents, provided by the outer MPC loop. Through simulations, we show that MPSVM can increase the inverter’s efficiency and possible extensions for future work are also provided.
