To advance sustainability of aviation, aircraft is presently developed that is powered by hydrogen or electricity (batteries) or a hybrid combination of the two. After highlighting how the aviation industry is changing and indicating future trends, the presentation will provide an overview of the particular challenges in the development of power electronics of all-electric aircraft: what changes are required in the power-electronic subsystems with respect to regular aircraft? It will furthermore highlight how new high-tech converters designs with high switching speeds can meet the requirements of light weight, low volume and high efficiency. Particular attention will be paid to meeting the stringent EMC requirements in aviation whilst implementing these new designs.
