Demonstratie 1: Contactless charging system of electric vehicles
This project deals with contactless charging of electric vehicles. A contactless power transfer system with high efficiency which uses inductively coupled coils to transfer power over a large air gap has been developed. It has been shown that contactless charging of electric vehicles, can significantly increase the range of these vehicles. Charging (for example, via a system of coils) can also be done while the vehicle is moving (on road charging) or when it is parked. The stationary charging will be demonstrated on scaled model with concentrated coils and remote controlled car. Experimental breadboard for on road charging (distributed coils) will be shown too.
Demonstratie 2: modular DC/DC converter with 98,5% efficiency for renewable energy sources
This project deals with the design, control and efficiency optimization of a high voltage bidirectional modular multilevel DC/DC power converter. High voltage is necessary for the electrostatic renewable energy converters, while the converter’s modular design allows optimal usage at lower voltages as well. The emphasis of this project will be laid onto the design optimization to achieve the high power density. Aiming at the high power density, loss minimization, functional integration, optimal thermal management and packaging are supposed to be the key content of the design optimization.
Demonstratie 3: DC grid with OPAL RT control
Multi-terminal dc networks can provide an optimal platform to foster the integration of remotely located renewable resources and to further increase the penetration of power electronic converters. This demonstration shows how to optimally control the power flow in a three-terminal dc network composed of voltage-source converters connected with a parallel-radial topology in symmetric monopolar configuration. A real-time digital simulator (OPAL-RT) fed with real measurements closes the power-hardware-in-the-loop control demonstration and is used to emulate the behaviour of the Dutch offshore wind farm Egmond aan Zee connected to the multi-terminal dc network.
Demonstratie 4: System integration of Wide band gap power electronics -opportunities and challenges
This demonstration is intended to illustrate the research activities in the EPP group on the topic of system integration of SiC and GaN devices. The applications vary from consumer and lighting, PV to industrial drives. The demonstrators show the potential of Wide bandgap devices for achieving higher efficiencies, higher switching frequencies and higher power densities.
Demonstratie 5: High-speed drive system for aerospace applications
The development of high speed permanent magnet machines with power electronics for application in aerospace is being developed by Aeronamic and TU Delft in the HiSPEM program. High speed drives are vital for aerospace applications due to their low weight and high power density. Meeting the environment requirements (-55°C to 150°C) while satisfying the performance and reliability criteria are key challenges to the success of the technology. The demonstration will feature a fault tolerant high speed machine (40krpm) with spatially integrated power electronics.
