Thermal management of energy storage devices in electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) is one of the main topics to increase their efficiency and lifetime. Designs are continuously and very quickly evolving and several parameters have to be considered, in order to select the most proper solution (active cooling vs. passive cooling, liquid cooling vs. air cooling) and to find the best trade-off amongst, weight, cost, efficiency and safety.
After a short introduction about the different types of HEVs, the presentation will go through the state-of-art in batteries thermal management, showing some existing applications and giving some guidelines about technical information needed for a proper design.
