Batch reaction and separation processes are the preferred route for producing, for example, specialty chemicals, food and beverage products and pharmaceutical ingredients. The inherently dynamic nature of batch processes makes process optimisation a challenging task unsuited to traditional steady-state simulation approaches. New advanced process modelling tools and techniques make it possible to optimise batch process recipes directly rather than by trial-and-error analysis. They can help, for example, to minimise batch times while meeting product quality constraints, to reduce batch-to-batch variability, improve product quality, reduce energy usage, maximise asset utilisation for multi-purpose plants and optimise recipes for different equipment or product qualities. The optimal settings generated can be fed directly into the batch process control system.

Process Systems Enterprise Ltd.
PSE is the world’s leading supplier of Advanced Process Modelling technology and related model-based engineering and innovation services to the process industries.
We help our customers to create value in their organisations through the application of advanced process modelling using our gPROMS platform technology. This enables them to explore the process decision space rapidly, reduce uncertainty and make better, faster and safer design and operating decisions through deeper understanding of their processes.
The result is accelerated innovation with faster time-to-market, improved process and product design, enhanced operations, more efficient and effective R&D and experimental programmes, and better-managed risk.
PSE’s technology and services are transforming the way the process industries design and operate. We bring new ways to create and capture sustainable value with rapid returns on investment, by providing new ways to deal with complexity, uncertainty and risk, and to make breakthrough innovation.
We choose to work flexibly and collaboratively in long-term relationships with our customers wherever possible, to maximise the mutual benefit from the application of advanced process modelling.
